FOREVER AND ALWAYS, BIOLOGIQUE RECHERCHE
Thanks to the lovely Zarina at Lume, the end of May marked a fabulous introduction to something even more fabulous: Biologique Recherche.
And since I’ve dabbled in its charming nature, I’ve found myself magically transformed and quite reluctant to share this exclusif gem (insert evil laugh). But alas, you know I love you ladies too much to not let you in on this secret, so here goes.
Since I’ve started using Biologique Recherche (BR), I’ve received plenty and pretty compliments on my skin, which resulted in me wearing minimal make-up with the utmost confidence. That's the goal, oui? So, who are these French purveyors of skincare that have made my skin do hopscotches of happiness…
This 40-year old beauty institute, still has the energy of a spring chicken, thanks to Yvan, Josette and Philippe Allouche; the biologist, physiotherapist and doctor behind this remarkable creation. Their unique approach to high-end personalized beauty care regimes uses only pure, concentrated, raw ingredients, as well as innovative and meticulous protocols and procedures. This has led to BR’s highly successful range of P50, P50V and P50W balancing exfoliators that to this day remain a steadfast benchmark in the cosmetic industry.
What makes the P50 balancing exfoliators so special?
It speeds up the epidermis' natural exfoliating process and the reconstruction of the epidermal shield. The fortified epidermis can then fulfill its protective functions completely, enhancing skin's self-regeneration potential. This coveted product is the cornerstone of their skincare empire. All Biologique Recherche skin care treatments, whether administered at home or in a beauty institute, start with the P50 ritual, which is: Apply in the morning and evening and expect the magic to work like this: a gentle exfoliation of the skin, regulation of excessive sebum secretion, and maintenance of the epidermis' acid pH. Added bonus: it prevents and treats in-grown hairs and is therefore ideal for pre-and post-shaving.
Heroic ingredients featured in Lotion P50 are:
· Cider vinegar: Created from fermented apples, cider vinegar and contains citric and malic acids. Thanks to its high tannin content, it also has purifying and astringent properties.
· Beta-hydroxy acid: Salicylic acid is naturally synthesized by certain plants, such as willow, and has an anti-inflammatory effect. Compared to AHAs, it penetrates the pores more easily in order to dissolve dead cells that may be causing obstructions.
· Poly-hydroxy acid: Gluconolactone is present in honey and fruit juices. It's a less penetrative exfoliant than AHAs, but also less irritating.
This product is life-changing. No jokes, and rumour has it that Brad and Angie dabble in the brilliance that is BR, as well as the Victoria Secret models who use it as a go-to facial before shows, but shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone.
I was lucky enough to be spoilt by Lume with a BR Skin Instant, followed by a BR Facial. The machine they use for the Skin Instant is super smart and reported back in real-time on my skin’s levels of moisture, elasticity, pigmentation and oiliness. I scored pretty high on elasticity, and had no pigmentation. GO ME! However, my area of improvement is moisture. Luckily this brand has no trouble quenching the thirstiest of skins.
After removing my make up with Lait U, Chloe used the P50 Lotion, also known as the holy grail of BR. Every skincare ritual should lay the foundation with this product as it beautifully prepares the skin for the next steps. After P50, Chloe used L'Eauxygenante (oxygen water) on my face, neck and décolleté. She described it as "A tall glass of vitamin water for your skin". How cute? Very cute.
Next up Chloe applied the Masque Vivant (“Vivant” means alive) - the Marmite-looking and Marmite-smelling star of the show. This is the product that took my facial to new levels of amazingness. Seeing that I'm not one for sweet treats or smells (unlike most people) this product was designed for me and with me in mind (Or that’s what I tell myself). The ingredients at work here are: Lactic Acid (moisturizing), Cucumber Extract (soothing) and Yeast Extract (regulating and purifying). It left my skin feeling and looking alive, glowing and yummy!
Just like me, my skin is an avid fan of cocktails, especially the type of cocktail that is uniquely prepared to suit my skin’s exact needs. The BR Quintessential Serums are the purest formulations in the range. They are highly concentrated with amino acids and short-peptides as active ingredients. Other brands refer to them as “boosters” which can be used on their own, mixed together in a cocktail, or added to your moisturizer. Chloe also used Serum PIGM 400, a Watercress Sprout Extract and Sea Lilly Extract that contains whitening and brightening active ingredients.
Since May, Creme Hydravit'S has been giving me a daily dose of happiness, mainly because it contains Yeast Extracts and Thermal Algae. Yeast is hydrating, brightening and lifts tired and stressed skin. (PRAISE!)
The final step of the BR facial was:
Chloe: "Would you like a glowy or a matte finish?"
Annie: “Glowy please”, I reply without thinking twice, because since I’ve entered my 30s, I feel glow distracts beautifully from the reality that is laugh-lines and crows-feet. Chloe applied Silk Plus which revitalizes the epidermis with a high concentration of regenerating agents such as Hyaluronic acid and silk extract. This is one of the most expensive products in the entire BR range. Speaking of dollars/randelas/pounds, BR does not sell online or display their prices online at all. They retail from selected spas of which there are only two in South Africa! Yes ONLY 2! How's that for exclusivity!
