So long sweet Summer...

So long sweet Summer...

With the last of summer now gone, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the hard-working products that got me and my pale skin through it.

Here’s a tribute to my top three warriors of summer’s sweet, yet harsh, sunny rays.

First up we have All-over protection with Cetaphil Daylong 30 Liposomal Lotion- Face and Body

Even tho the technology behind manufacturing Liposomal lotions has a massive cost to it, this life-saver is available at Click's and Discem for R240/150ml.  Not too shabby if you ask me.

I have to admit; greasy sunscreen is not my friend. We’ve tried to have long walks on the beach but no, no, no. There's nothing like being hot, sweaty, humidified AND then adding a sticky product on top of that. In short, Cetaphil Liposomal Daylong was the answer to all my sticky-lotion prayers. They have over 60 years’ experience in making simple, non-invasive skincare products with a medical approach. Even though they've been around forever, they stay ahead of the game when it comes to new innovations. Liposomal Sunscreens are quite new to the skincare game and Cetaphil were early adopters to this new trend.

What are Liposomal Sunscreens? I’m no science expert, you can ask any of my drama lecturers, but what I do now is this: Liposomes are neither a physical nor a chemical protectant - they are tiny fat-like molecules that are easily absorbed by the top layer of the skin. These filter-containing particles provide maximum protection from UVB and UVA rays specifically, because they're easiest to absorb into the top layer of the skin. This explains the non-grease factor as it sinks into the skin quickly without any sticky traces.

Initially, I was drawn to this product because of the brand's reputation when it comes to tackling eczema and acne-prone skin. The range presented itself like the safe, responsible, professor-type wizard of the skincare industry and I could not be more pleased!

This sunscreen stepped into my life this summer (insert drumroll) and effortlessly dropped the mic on all other sunscreens lined up in my bathroom. It beats the heat, every time!

Next up we have Tinted 50+ Photoderm Max from Bioderma.

Availible at Click's, Discem and most decent pharmacies at roughly R265/40ml.

What I love most about the Bioderma brand is their philosophy when it comes to inventing skincare, which is:

  • Only use ingredients that are strictly necessary
  • Select optimal doses of the purest active ingredients
  • Prefer molecules already found in the skin

This tinted sunscreen gives me enough coverage so that i can merely build on that cover with a liquid concealer. A bestie with a guaranteed space in my make-up bag, forever. HOORAY!

Last but not least, Avene's SPF 50+

Also available at Click's, Discem and certain pharmacies at R229/50ml.

Avène has a reputation for being one of those 'what’s NOT to like' beauty brands with thermal spring water being their well-known and well-loved signature ingredient across their range. This beautiful ingredient is believed to be soothing, calming and softening on the skin. It’s like someone laying you down on a bed of roses.

The fact that Avène's key sun cream ingredient is sourced from the Cévennes Mountains in Avène, France, makes me feel oh-so-fancy-and-fresh. It never leaves white streaks, always has a matte, smooth finish and is just what every fussy belle needs to survive summer’s sassiness. I've traveled from South Africa to New York, London and Spain with this faithful companion to protect me from the rays and it never ever EVER disappoints. A special product that makes me feel just that: special. <3
