A Curry and Craft Combo.
I am new to the Observatory scene - we recently moved into the neighbourhood - and my excitement when finding out about a new authentic Indian eatery opening up within walking distance from our home, had me jumping with joy.
I was lucky enough to get invited to try out their menu prior to their public opening and I remember leaving the restaurant thinking: This, is the reason we moved!
I’ve always been a big fan of a hands-on-down-to-earth approach to any establishment and this is exactly what the owners of Curry and Craft have going. And when the big day arrived to try and test their menu they didn’t invite foodies or bloggers, but the PEOPLE of Obz, and best of all, they encouraged and welcomed feedback.
I asked Chynene, co-owner of Curry and Craft, where the idea to start the eatery came from, this is what she said:
'Vincent and I realized there were only two extremes of Indian dining- quick, cheap takout or fancy fine dining. We wanted to bring the concept of fast casual dining and 'the burger bar' atmosphere to Indian food.'
First up, one of their signature starters: Chicken Lollipops. These were a first for me and being quite the chicken snob, I can safely say, I WILL BE BACK FOR MORE. Cooked to perfection and beautifully presented with a subtle hint of curry in the basting. All the boys around the table were wanting more and more and more.
Next up was the Lamb Rogan Josh and again: perfection! Super tender with wonderful, deep flavours, and to let you in on a little secret: Chenye’s recipes date back centuries and have been passed down from family to family - Her mother's side is from the north of India and her father's, the south. She grew up in the kitchen and helped her mother and grandmother cook since she was 10. How's that for tried and tested.
Curry & Craft opened to the public on the 27th of November and are open from 11:30 Monday to Saturday.
