On a chilly Tuesday evening, with a bad hair day and my gelish all grown out, my boyfriend of the past 2+ years asked me to marry him. Now when I say “bad hair day” I mean waking up to a power outage = no hairdryer and no GHD = HORROR! So, the only thing I could do was pull a beanie over my wet hair and hope for the best. (Little did I know that it would end up being the best day of my life.)
I'm not going to share every little detail with you but what I will say is this: Adam popped the question in our new home in front of our new fireplace with Modern English playing in the background and our new puppy peacefully snoring in her bed. He presented me with the most beautiful Dear Rae ring crafted to suit my every desire, making my YES echo through the night. After that we cracked open some bubbly and celebrated with good music and a hearty home-cooked meal for two.
Here are a couple of things I learned along the engagement path that I would love to share with you.
1. There is nothing wrong with embracing your A-type personality and all the nitty gritty that comes with it. My ring is perfection and I will proudly say that I chose it myself. Adam asked me in January what I want my engagement ring to look like and obviously I sent a detailed document explaining it thoroughly. There's nothing wrong with having a say in your ring. You are going to be wearing it every day until forever.
2. Never get caught off-guard with grown out nails. As I mentioned, on the night my nails looked terrible and resulted in me spending 2 hours out of my floating on cloud 9 the next day in the nail bar where I could’ve been sipping bubbles with my besties. Needless to say, I am also happy to announce that I’m basically engaged to OPI too (sorry Adam) and their “Big Apple” nail colour. Adam and I had our first ever holiday together in New York and it was simply magical, so of course the name drew me in like a hot magnet. It's so ohlala pretty and really makes my ring pop.
3. MOISTURISE MOISTURISE and then MOISTURISE some more! I got my mom’s hands which means dry. Luckily, OPI launched their wonderful ProSpa range shortly after the engagement and I was lucky enough to get invited to the special launch at Kloof Street House.
Capuacu, Shea and Avocado-butters are highly moisturising while Daisy Flower Extract (yes! how pretty does that sound) brightens and evens any skin tone. White Tea is high in antioxidants to fight those free-radicals that speed up the ageing process. They also added ProSina to help strengthen and protect your nails from everyday wear and tear.
I've tried all the gel polishes on offer in South Africa and OPI is by far my favourite. To remove is easy and simple and it doesn't require buffing. Their ProSpa range is the perfect companion for my beautiful ring and gorgeous Big Apple nails. Do yourself a favour and pay a visit to Skin Tonic in Sea Point. Owner Joanne is super welcoming and my therapist, Lynrae did a beautiful job with my nails.
Thank you Dear Rae and OPI for making my hands look and feel pretty, soft and warm when held tightly by my handsome fiancé. Forever.
